Your new mentality for putting yourself out there
2-minute read
Putting your beliefs out there can be one scary motherf**ker.
If you aren’t scared to be vulnerable in public, you’re a freak, and I respect you. (but I don’t understand you).
On the more likely chance that putting yourself out there is scary to you, too, here’s a mentality to help you grow faster.
It looks like this:
You will never find a rainbow if you are looking down.
What’s Warren talking about?
He’s talking about being afraid to do something because you’ll get criticized.
But growing is all about taking risks.
And if you’re too afraid to take them, you ain’t gonna grow.
Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.
If your beliefs are easily shaken because someone doesn’t agree, it’s not a belief; it’s a fad.
I have no intention of being harsh.
I have every intention of being realistic.
Your beliefs are the backbone. Your spine. Your grit.
If someone challenges your beliefs and you bend, the belief isn’t strong enough.
If it’s a true belief, you’ll lean in.
And if it’s a belief you are dedicating your life’s work to, you’ll inevitably start sharing it with others.
And social media is the obvious place for that.
Create raving fans. Thank the detractors.
Sometimes, we get paralysis around posting on social media.
I had it for a decade plus.
“What would I say?”
“Why would anybody care?”
“What if people disagree with me?”
“What if someone calls me out?”
But these are mental hurdles. They stop us from accomplishing anything because we think people will judge us.
Listen good… people challenging you is a good thing.
If you fight your way to the middle (IE: being liked), you will stay right where you’re at.
If you make some waves, you’ll get some people upset, sure.
But you’ll build a tribe of people who love your message. And those people are why you should do it.
And when somebody gets pissed (this is the real world, after all), kill ‘em with kindness.
This dude did NOT like my email. So I gave him thanks.
I leave you with this
It’s so easy to take things personally. We hate it when someone is upset with us or calls us out.
But you’ve had your beliefs for years.
When someone calls you out on social, they don’t know about all the effort, experience, and challenge you’ve encountered to form that belief.
In other words, you’ve put the work in; they have not.
So don’t give their words too much weight.
And since I’ve included a lot of quotes in this one, let me leave you with one that inspires:
To create is to give a piece of your soul to the world. It is an act of freedom, an act of love.
If you want to be free, create.
Build raving fans AND detractors.
It’s all part of the game.
See ya next week ✌️
Chatting is fuuuuuuun
