I have a confession about money
2-minute read
I have a confession to make.
I care about money a lot.
It’s a lifeblood. It gives options. It gives safety. It gives status.
But here’s the deal. As much as I care about it and want it, it’ll always be fourth place.
Because it’s not as important as this:
My significance
Today’s post will be short, but it will help you prioritize your solopreneur journey.
And it should be fun.
Let’s go.
Dollar bills = cheap thrills
"I don't care about success, I care about significance. Being of service and creating significance in the world are the same to me."
Pursuing something to make money is a relic. It looks like this:
Taking a course on day trading when you don’t care about trading.
Opening a dropshipping store with a product you don’t care about (I did this).
Agreeing to design a website for someone you know will be high maintenance and cheap.
And the list goes on
Each one of these examples puts the dollar above the impact.
And baby, that’s the wrong way around.
The dollar has no master. And it’s not warm and fuzzy.
Translation: You can pursue it all you want, but it’ll never care more about you than you do about it.
But I need to make money you square (that’s you talking to me)
Yes, you do.
So do I.
And here’s the good thing:
They just keep printing more of it
And I don’t know about you, but I’m not interested in making my primary impact in life be focused on something so universal.
I’m trying to stand out.
But you can’t eat based on standing out alone.
What to do. What to do.
From now until the end of time, you’ll hear me say to pursue purpose over paychecks, significance over success, build futures over franklins.
But that doesn’t mean one without the other.
It’s a simple priority list.
Mine looks like this:
Be significant
Make your mark
Have fun
Make money
It’s still on the list but no higher than fourth.
I gotta live with myself
I made money all sorts of ways:
I loaded pigs as a kid
I sold pastries
I did websites
I wrote content
I built companies for other people
None of those are undesirable but in every single instance, my focus was making money.
And when I made it, I felt empty and that there was never enough.
And like I often say:
If you don’t like the way the table is set, turn over the table.
I looked at the data.
When I pursued money first, I didn’t enjoy it.
When I pursued purpose first, I didn’t care about money at all.
And the money showed up anyway.
How you can do it too
With your priority list looking like mine, you only need one more ingredient to make money on your terms.
Patience
Prioritizing significance over success is a long-term mission.
It’s not easy. It’s not fast. You’ll be questioning every moment.
But becoming significant isn’t supposed to be fast or easy.
It’s meant to be hard.
Embrace that.
Help people for free
Get better
Help more people
Charge them
Don’t quit
Become significant and successful
See ya next week ✌️
Here’s something I did recently that was a ton of fun
The FIRE Framework for Solopreneurs
I’ve just passed the 50% mark of building the FIRE Framework and making it a mission to get it done in the next few weeks.
When it’s done, I’ll have invested over 100 hours of my blood, sweat, and tears into this course.
My goal is to deliver maximum value to solopreneurs to help them:
Find their purpose
Eliminate items that don’t bring them joy (really)
Create a weekly system that helps them hit their goals in record time
Compound interest and leverage through relationships + skills
You’ll know how to:
Use your business to fill your cup and your wallet
Find new opportunities
Say “no” to bad apples
It comes in the form of a personalized Notion course and is going on pre-order to my subscribers a few weeks before the rest of the world knows.
If it sounds like something you need, this is my “thanks for the loyalty” price.
$99
When it officially launches in October, this price goes away.
And here’s a sneak peek into the Welcome video.
*I’ll send it directly to your inbox when it’s ready next month.
**Want it for free? I’m accepting 2 more beta testers on the partial build. Send me a reply to this email if you’re interested.
